DULUTH SERVICE UNIT LEADER MEETING AGENDA

April 16, 2018


Treasurer Report Melissa

· Last year for Annual Fund –

o First year we ran in the positive due to a mis-timed check

o Income $2,600

o Expenses $2,600

· Donations given to the SU for the


Blue Ribbon Troop, Scout Sunday Patches

· Form due tonight with number of patches needed.


Service Unit Bridging and Awards Ceremony Barbara

· Bridging is May 10th.

· Let Barbara know ASAP if interested in bridging.

· Displays can be brought to show what they’ve done


Highlights from Service Unit Survey Barbara

· Tally sheet of survey will be provided at next SU meeting and on website

· More information and less games.

· Meetings are too long.

o Break up topics based off the calendar.

· More badgework for the girls.

· Questions about annual fund.

· Almost 80k of cookies sold.

· Concerns regarding pricing of events

o Camporee requires 8k just for registration due prior to summer.

o Majority of locations require a deposit of at a minimum of $200.

o SU dues help pay for some of the surprise costs if troops are not able to cover all fees/supplies for an event.


New Communication Website Stephanie

· Newsletter will be distributed this week.

· The newsletter/website will work hand-in-hand

· New features are a Troop Spotlight option.

Spring Renewal Barbara/All

· Girls need to be registered at least 2 weeks prior to fall product to be able to participate in the product sale.


Annual Fund Barbara/All

· Ginneh will be taking over for running Annual Fund.

· She will work on a new bundling option

· Through Sept 30th with the girls we have registered we should have $7500 by the end of the year.

o Currently we have $977.

o If every girl can commit to at least $10 we would be able to hit our goal.


Sharing Time Special Speakers

· Tiffany – Day at Capitol

o Opportunity for girls to go to the state capitol and watch the Senators vote.

o Fills up instantly so look on the calendar in December.

o Actual date is usually in February.

o Counts as an excused absence with the school.

o Involves a scavenger hunt, picture with the governor, for 1 hour they have female Representatives/Senators talk to the girls, this year was combined with common ground badge, CEO of GSGATL floats around and gives the girls a badge who find her.

o The girls met Brooks Coleman and saw a bill passed called the Love bill.


· Carmen – Girl Scout activities with other Councils

o As girls get older they may have already exhausted all the opportunities available in the current council.

o Other councils have activity options available for all Girl Scouts.

§ Not every council will open activities to other councils.

o Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails has events that you can participate in or plan your trip around.


· Polly – Savannah Trip

o Plan very, very far in advance.

o Adults attended and were registered adults.

o The Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace website is the most important place to go first.

o Training for the Steps to Savannah is available in LARC. Required course.

o Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia has Council owned badges that the girls can do to earn badges while in Savannah.

o In the extended option you can complete an art session.


· Amy – Notre Dame theatre shows.

o One this week and another in May.

o Say they are with the Duluth Girl Scouts and get a $7 ticket and a patch.

· Juanita & Stephanie – Mountain Magic

o This is an amazing event for leaders only to expand on their outdoor training as well as learning other tools that may be beneficial.

o There is a costume contest that is held on Saturday night with the theme.

o The theme for this next year is Dr. Suess.

o The event will be held on January 25th - 27th 2019

Mother/Daughter tea

· Troop 1214 is hosting the Mother/Daughter tea.

· May 12th

· Princess Tea is the theme

· Refreshments - hot tea, cold snacks (savory and sweet)

· Limited seating of 100 individuals – First come, first served.

· Reservations will be taken starting Tuesday 4/17

· Couple is $15 and every additional person is $7

· If mom’s want a patch let them know in advance.


Camporee

· August 17th-19th

· CSI: Camp Scene Investigation is the theme

· Money due at end of May

· Estimated to be $85

· Daisy’s can attend for the Saturday or the weekend (if requirements have been met)


Spaghetti Dinner

· Marshauna and Ginneh will be hosting this around September.


May Mother/Daughter Dinner – Monday, May 7, 2018

6:45 check in Dinner/Fun 7:00 to 8:30 pm


Items Needed: Daisy Level – salad item; Brownie Level – casserole, vegetable item ; Junior Level - drinks (please no red color); Cadette/Senior/Ambassador – chips, dip, vegetable tray

Please make sure to bring own serving utensils (thank you)


Dessert provided by Service Unit and Special Troop Donation. Meat and Paper Goods provided by Service Unit.
